After Four Years of Sobriety, Ryan Sheckler Took a Risk in 2026, Believing He Could Drink in Moderation

Ryan Sheckler, a professional skateboarder who gained fame through MTV’s Life of Ryan, faced a battle with alcohol addiction that almost destroyed his career.
At just 14, in 2003, Sceckler turned pro and later became a household name after winning the gold medal in X Games (Skateboard Park in Los Angeles). However, the pressure of fame and his early-career rise led him down a rather unfortunate path.
He also admitted that the negativity and criticism he faced increased his desire to drink more and more, turning it from an occasional habit to an unhealthy coping mechanism.
“I blame my drinking on myself. The show’s not responsible for that. It was me,” he reflected.
Sheckler Went Sober Twice
After having an addiction for several years, finally in 2016, Sheckler sought help from rehab to stop his alcohol addiction.
The skatboarder also described the experience as the scariest day of his life, requiring him to surrender to the program entirely.
He went on to be Sober for the next four years, which was an astonishing milestone in his life. However, in 2026, he made a slight adjustment and believed he could drink in moderation.
Thankfully, in his case, after just five months of drinking, suspecting the old problems may rise again, he chose to quit drinking entirely, stating, “Being sober is the best decision that I made for my life.”
Sheckler has been away from alcohol for around half a decade. His life documentary, “Rolling Away,” was also released a couple of years ago, which showcased his personal struggles and later his recovery and growth.
The skateboarder now uses his story to motivate others facing addictions and has also emphasized the importance of seeking help and leaning on support systems.
Ryan Sheckler is currently married to Abigail Baloun. They tied the knot on March 3, 2026, and share two daughters, Olive and Lilah.
