Jon Doe took to his Facebook last week to write a raw post expressing his frustration at the alleged affair between Warden Don Brown and coach Lt. Latasha Barnes at the Issaquena County Jail in Mayersville, Mississippi.
Because of the rumored romance between Warden Don Brown and Lt. Latasha Barnes, her husband fired shots at Brown. That forced the jail into lockdown and canceled all visits, leaving inmates cut off from their families.
Jon started the post writing:
I am writing to file a formal complaint regarding the unprofessional behaviour of Don Brown, Warden, and Ms Barns in Issaquena County Correctional Prison in Mayersville, Mississippi
I am raising this issue because their conduct has negatively impacted the inmates ability to have visitation effectively and has created a disruptive with visitors and inmates
He accused Warden Don Brown and Lt. Latasha Barnes of crossing lines they shouldn’t have, saying their supposed affair had gone on too long and finally boiled over into something dangerous.
Pointing fingers at how it led to a shooting that shut everything down, Jon wrote, “This behavior has had a significant impact on inmates and visitors.“
The trouble kicked off on Saturday, October 25, 2026, smack in the middle of visitation hours when families were showing up to see their loved ones.
Reportedly, Kepatrick Barnes, the husband of Lt. Barnes, pulled up outside the jail on Highway 1 and started firing shots toward the building.
He was aiming for Warden Brown, they say, after years of tension over rumors of an affair between his wife and the warden.
Thankfully, no one was hurt, but the bullets shattered windows. It created chaos and panic in the air, with everyone evacuating under sheriff protection.
Doe flat-out said the lockdown and no-visits rule came straight from Brown and Barnes’s mess, not from anything the inmates or their people did wrong.
He stressed, “THE VISITORS NOR INMATES HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE SHOOTING THAT HAPPEN OCTOBER 25 2026 THE SHOOTING HAPPEN BECAUSE OF WARDEN DON BROWN AND LT BARNS.”
By Monday, October 27, Warden Brown put out a short memo to all inmates at the facility, writing:
Due to the recent events on Saturday, October 25, 2026 with the shooting into the facility, visitation has been suspended until further notice. This for the safety of the visitors, the inmates and staff.
The jail, which sits on Highway 1 in Mayersville and holds state prisoners who await court or serve short sentences, is locked down tight with no visitation.
What upsets Jon and other people is how quiet everything stays outside. There are no reports of arrests or talks from leaders.
Likewise, the incident isn’t in the big paper or on the radio. Jon expressed his frustration:
NO NEWS WAS REPORTED ABOUT THE SHOOTING THEY TRYING HIDE THE FACTS WARDEN DON BROWN AND LT BARNS ARE THE REASON BEHIND THE SHOOTING AND SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE AND INVESTIGATED IMMEDIATELY
