The Amsterdam Football League suspension was announced due to an expired lease, staff shortages, facility issues, and the need for facility repairs on May 5, 2026.

The Amsterdam Little Giants Football League, a long-standing part of the community, has put a pause on all activities for now. The decision comes after several challenges have made it difficult for the league to run smoothly.

One of the biggest problems is that the league’s lease agreement for using the football field and facilities has expired.

This agreement, originally made between the City of Amsterdam and the Greater Amsterdam School District, gave the league permission to use the land.

Without a new agreement in place, the league doesn’t have the authority to continue using the field. Both sides are now reviewing the agreement and hope to come to a new deal soon.

Likewise, another serious issue is the lack of volunteers and staff. Right now, only two people are trying to manage everything, and that simply isn’t enough.

For the league to operate properly, it needs more help.

They’re calling on the community to step up. They informed that they need people, whether you want to coach, advise, join as an officer, or volunteer in any other way.

The league informed that anyone interested is encouraged to email at .

The league also pointed out that the facility itself needs repair. Some work must be done to ensure the field is safe and in good shape for the kids, coaches, and parents.

The more volunteers who get involved, the faster these issues can be fixed, and the sooner the league can welcome families back.

For decades, the Amsterdam Little Giants has been a place where local kids enjoyed football, cheerleading, and majorette activities. It’s been a proud part of the city’s sports history, giving children a place to grow, learn, and have fun.

The league says they are working hard to resolve the issues and bring things back to normal.

At the moment, they are committed to getting back to the standards they’ve always upheld and continuing to serve the community.

With a promise to keep updating the community about any progress, the league thanked everyone, writing:

Thank you for your cooperation and patience in this matter. The league will update this site with the any progress as often as possible.
Thank you,
Amsterdam Little Giants
