Unicoi County High School Principal Mr. Bogart released a public statement on Facebook.
He addressed rumors surrounding an incident that occurred after the football game between UCHS and Gatlinburg Pittman.
He clarified that the situation did not involve any players or coaches from either team.
Instead, the disturbance was caused by fans after the game had ended.
The principal emphasized that both teams played with sportsmanship and respect throughout the match.

According to the statement, the incident began after the teams had completed the traditional post-game handshake.
Tensions among fans escalated and spilled onto the field. Some Gatlinburg-Pittman players and coaches stepped in to help calm the situation, rather than participate in it.
Contrary to online rumors, no Gatlinburg Pittman coaches were arrested, and their players were not involved in any fighting.
Both schools’ athletes and coaching staff behaved appropriately, and the principal praised their conduct.
Additionally, the Principal shared a meaningful story from a year ago, highlighting the bond between and Gatlinburg Pittman.
After Hurricane Helene struck, Gatlinburg Pittman collected and donated several thousand dollars to help Unicoi students recover.
He used this example to remind the community of the respect and goodwill between the schools.
Additionally, he urged everyone to honor that relationship and not let false rumors damage it.
He stressed the importance of respectful behavior from fans and adults, especially toward officials, even when calls are controversial.
Moving forward, the school hopes to continue a positive season and encourages the community to set a good example for students by showing sportsmanship and maturity.
In the following post, many people shared their thoughts on the incident. Some expressed their concern, while some expressed appreciation.
Some suggested that stadiums should have seating on both sides to help separate fans and prevent future conflicts.
Likewise, some praised Principal Bogart for their leadership, saying:
I want to thank Director English and Principal Bogart for their leadership. They are terrific educators and men of integrity. I want to thank the Erwin community for the hospitality and respect we have always been shown. I would hope an isolated incident would not affect a really good relationship between two great communities. I wish the Blue Devils the best of luck the rest of the season.
While some commenters thanked the school for the clarification about the situation, saying:
Thank you for clarification. Trying to leave the stadium, the rumors were numerous before I could reach my vehicle! The players, coaches and staff exemplified true sportsmanship. The fan Dads morphing into “soccer mom’s” was disrespectful and shameful. I hope the physical altercation will be used as a teaching tool on ways NOT to handle disappointment.
Before the school’s official clarification, many people misunderstood the incident. However, the principal’s detailed statement helped correct the narrative.
