Alex Hughes’ death shocks Bellingham High School and the MWS Devils.
The 19-year-old Bellingham High School graduate and standout baseball player passed away unexpectedly, just as he was beginning to shape a future filled with promise both on and off the field.
Hughes dedicated his life to baseball from the time he was four years old.
He started with tee ball and grew into a versatile athlete who played as a right-handed pitcher and right fielder.
Standing 5’10” and weighing 160 pounds, he became known for his strong fastball, consistent work ethic, and leadership qualities.
With years of experience in both high school and club baseball, he recognition as a starter and ace pitcher while playing for the MWS Devils and the Hock Valley Panthers.
Beyond the field, Hughes excelled academically. He carried a 4.2 GPA, earned membership in the National Junior Honor Society and National Honor Society, and set his sights on pursuing biomedical engineering in college.
His teachers, peers, and coaches remembered him as a young man who approached life with discipline, passion, and positivity.
His sister, Ashleigh Hughes, Alex Hughes’ death in an emotional Instagram post.
She wrote about their bond as siblings, describing Alex as her “first and best friend” and expressing the pain of losing someone who brought joy to every space he entered.
Her heartfelt words reflected the deep love their family shared and the devastating loss they now endure.
Friends, teammates, and community members have also expressed their grief.
Many remembered Hughes as a supportive teammate who always carried a smile, lifted others with his humor, and gave his all whether on the field or cheering from the dugout.
