Blue Devils Women’s Basketball Coach Acey Shaw Suffered From a Rare Bovine Disease and Passed Away At 51, Leaving His Wife and 3 Kids

Acey Shaw, a former Blue Devils women’s basketball coach, passed away at the age of 51 on Sunday, September 14, 2026, at his home.
He was battling with a rare bovine disease, which was featured on ESPN.
Acey transcended the wins and losses to become the very heart of a community.
He was a beloved pillar in Dietrich and a respected name across the state in the world of high school sports.
He coached the Blue Devils for 16 years and won four consecutive State championships from 2011 to 2014. Likewise, he won three state runner-up trophies in 2009, 2015, and 2016.
Moreover, he served the Dietrich school district as principal and superintendent. His peers consistently recognized his exceptional leadership.
Shaw was named Northside Conference Coach of the Year on twelve occasions and was selected as the All-State Coach of the Year on four separate occasions.
His legacy extends far beyond trophies and titles. He was an educator and mentor whose impact extended beyond the basketball court.
His players loved him, his opponents respected him, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him cherished him.
Unfortunately, his untimely passing saddened the whole community, and many remembered him in their heartfelt tribute.
I think the legacy he leaves is never give up. He taught the kids, especially after he got sick, because he never gave up. Even in his last days, he didn’t give up. And he really taught them that it wasn’t about winning basketball games.
Acey Shaw’s Family Mourns the Tragic Loss
Acey Ryan Shaw was a devoted family man and lifelong resident of Dietrich. He passed away at 51 at his home surrounded by his family.
He grew up in the small community alongside his sister, Alicia Shaw Rivoli. His roots in the area ran deep, and he built a life defined by love, hard work, and resilience.
On June 22, 1996, he married the love of his life, Jalyn Shaw. They built a beautiful family and shared 29 years of marriage.

Jett works at Farm Bureau Insurance Company of Idaho and is married to Malia Manning. Similarly, Jacey is married to Clint Bateman.
Acey was a loving and supportive father who instilled in them the values of integrity and perseverance.
His life was a powerful lesson in courage and strength, and he battled a rare bovine disease with incredible fortitude.
However, he never wavered in his spirit, instead choosing to teach those around him about patience, the importance of working hard, and the critical virtue of never giving up.
His loving wife, children, sister, and a community of friends and relatives who will cherish his memory survive him.
Last night, my dear husband returned home to his Heavenly Father. While our hearts ache, I am deeply grateful for the time we were blessed to share and for the lessons he taught our family. Life will never be the same without him here, but I find peace knowing he is free from pain and that families are forever. The Shaw family announced that a visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 19, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – Dietrich Ward, located at 160 S. 660 E., in Dietrich.
The funeral will be held at noon on Saturday, September 20, at the Dietrich High School Gymnasium, located at 406 N. Park Street, in Dietrich.
A visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the exact location, immediately preceding the service.
Burial will follow at the Dietrich Cemetery.
I lost a Cousin/Brother last night… when we was little and moved in Acey stepped right up and just added me as his little sister. No matter the mistakes I made Acey never judged me. Acey was one of a kind! He loved to joke! He loved being married and he absolutely loved being a dad and Grandpa! He is an example to us all of what we should all be like! Judge no one Love everyone and above all else be Christ like! I think that best Describes Acey Shaw! So Thank you Acey for showing all of us the way! I’m so sad you’re gone but I’m so happy you are up there in Heaven free from pain! Go give everyone a great big hug for me! Love u Acey.❤️
