The death of Jackie Lee Bates II has brought deep sorrow to his family, friends, and the Tuscumbia community.
Jackie Lee Bates II, known to many simply as Lee, passed away on Sunday, December 21, 2026, at the age of 39.
His passing has left a lasting void among those who knew and loved him.
Lee lived in Tuscumbia, Alabama, where he built strong connections through faith, family, and shared passions.
He actively participated as a member of First Baptist Church of Colbert Heights and proudly belonged to the Shoals Car and Truck Club.
Through these communities, Lee formed friendships that extended far beyond shared interests.
Family remained the center of Lee’s life. He devoted himself to his two sons, Haiden Bates and Riley Bates, whom he loved deeply.

He also shared a close bond with his parents, Tressa Church and Jackie Bates, and his sisters, Aundrea Weeks and Tiffany Claunch.
The mother of his children, Hailey Bates, remained an important part of his family circle, along with his nieces and nephews, who brought him great joy.
Lee’s death followed the loss of several loved ones who preceded him, including his stepfather, James Church; grandparents Virgie and Charles Speegle; and his grandfather, Bobby Bates.
Friends have shared heartfelt tributes that reflect Lee’s character and the impact he made.

The community will gather to honor Lee’s life during visitation on Tuesday, December 23, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Morrison Funeral Home in Tuscumbia.
A funeral service will follow immediately in the chapel, with Dr. Seth Hood officiating. Interment will take place at Hyde Lake Cemetery in Colbert Heights.
Pallbearers will include Kenneth Weeks, Cole Claunch, Daniel Speegle, Anthony Speegle, Chris Speegle, and Corey Speegle. J.T. Parker, Josh Emory, Tommy Murray, and Jacob Murray will serve as honorary pallbearers, representing the many friendships Lee formed throughout his life.
As family and friends mourn his passing, they also celebrate a life marked by love, loyalty, and lasting memories that will continue to live on.
