A vocal advocate for student focus and discipline, Denison High School Softball Coach Chris Anderson recently urged parents to support the school’s cellphone ban.

Chris Anderson currently serves as the Head Softball Coach at Denison High School, a position he assumed in May 2026.

Before joining Denison, he led the Sherman Independent School District’s baseball team to its first playoff appearance since 2017.

He also served as an instructor at D-BAT Texoma, a well-regarded baseball and softball training center.

Later, as owner-operator of Frozen Ropes North Dallas, he guided young athletes through advanced skill development.

Coach Chris Anderson’s Stand on School Cellphone Ban Earns Strong Support from Parents!

While he normally avoids sharing his opinions online, Coach Anderson felt this issue was important enough to speak up about.

Recently, about a new law banning cellphones in schools.

He spoke out in support of the new cellphone ban law, urging parents to rethink the way their reactions impact student behavior.

Moreover, he criticized negative comments from parents on social media, saying that when parents complain about rules or fines, it sends the message to kids that breaking rules is okay.

He further said:

The comments I see from parents on social media posts regarding a law that was put into place is the exact reason we have so much trouble getting kids to follow the law/expectations. I’ve read people upset about the fine, about it being personal property, and about teachers needing to follow the same rules.

Instead, he believes parents should teach their children to follow expectations, even if it’s inconvenient.

Coach Anderson shared his own experience as both a teacher and a coach, saying that phones are a major distraction in classrooms.

He pointed out how difficult it is for educators to teach students who are more interested in texting, gaming, or watching shows than paying attention.

Comparing this to his softball team, he explained how when parents talk negatively about team rules or decisions, it harms their child’s attitude and performance.

Again, he emphasized that the same happens in the classroom, if parents undermine rules, kids lose motivation and discipline, lowering their potential.

He also addressed concerns about student safety and the inconvenience of not being able to reach kids instantly.

Coach Anderson reminded parents that they grew up without phones and still stayed safe.

With over 22 years of teaching and coaching experience and as a father of three, Anderson believes kids do better when parents and teachers work together.

He teaches his own children to stay off their phones during school and to take their education seriously.

If parents support the new law and help their children commit to learning, he believes students will see big improvements in focus, communication, and overall mental health.

In response to the coach’s post, many parents agreed with his message with appreciation and support.

One parent writes,

Well said, Coach! We feel exactly the same as parents and couldn’t be happier to see this passed. There is so much positive that can come from this!

Similarly, another wrote:

I wish every single parent could be made to read this. If kids could regulate themselves or had enough guidance from the parent to do so, it never makes a need for the legislation. If you spent time in the classroom you see how wide spread this problem actually is!

As Coach Chris Anderson continues to receive strong support from parents, it’s clear that his message is resonating beyond the softball field.

With families and educators united, this initiative may prove to be a powerful step toward improving student focus, behavior, and growth.
