Edgewood Athletics Accused of Demanding Endless Fees for Senior Gifts and Non-Assigned Coaches

Parents of Edgewood school athletes raised concerns over what they describe as excessive and confusing fee requests from the school’s athletics department.
The controversy centers on charges for senior gifts and contributions for coaches who are not directly assigned to the students.
Nichole Turner, a parent of a freshman athlete, expressed frustration over the mounting demands on October 7.
“Edgewood school sports blow my mind. Costs crazy money to play. They harass parents to donate money for a ‘fundraiser,’ we end up giving triple the initial goal, and they are still asking kids to give money for dumb stuff,” Turner .
She added that even her daughter, a first-year student, was asked to contribute to senior gift baskets, and a coach who does not work with her child.
The situation sparked a wider discussion among the school’s parent community.
Jackie Boothe commented, “Crazy,” while Jason Dickerson added in a more colorful reaction, “I would tell them kindly to kiss the very center of my ass.”
Other parents, like Lindsey Smith-Powell, noted that similar practices occur in other schools, stating, “Kings is the same!! It’s crazy!!”
The debate highlights the financial pressures many families face when participating in school athletics.
Parents like Caroline Sizemore, whose child is in first grade, pointed out that these fee requests seem to start early and persist through all grade levels, raising concerns about fairness and transparency.
As the discussion unfolds online, parents are calling for clearer communication and justification for the fees, particularly when contributions extend to students who have no direct connection to the requested items or personnel.
