Oelwein, Iowa Native and Former Oelwein High School Cheerleader Mariah Ash Dies, Survived by Husband Angel, Daughter Mariana, and Family

Oelwein and Cedar Rapids, Iowa, are mourning the untimely death of beloved native and former cheerleader, Mariah Ash.

Mariah Ash passed away on Monday, December 29, 2026; however, the details surrounding her untimely death have not been disclosed yet.

According to her family, Mariah Ash passed away unexpectedly, and the cause remains unknown as they take time to process what happened.

A native of Oelwein, Iowa, Mariah Ash touched the lives of many with her amazing singing and cheerleading skills as well as her kind and cheerful nature.

Mariah attended Oelwein High School, where she was a member of the cheerleading team and won the hearts of many with her exceptional performances throughout her tenure. She graduated in 2019.

OHS Cheerleading took to its social media and wrote:

“Mariah had the biggest heart, was always kind, and had the brightest smile. She cared deeply about others always showing compassion and grace. She had a way to make others around her always feel seen, heard and valued. She will always be remembered for her gentle spirit. Please keep her family, friends, and all who loved her in your thoughts and prayers. 🤍”

In addition to cheerleading, Mariah Ash was also an active member of the OHS choir program and touched the lives of many with her incredibly beautiful voice.

After graduating from Oelwein High School, Mariah continued her academic journey, attending Kirkwood Community College, from which she earned her Associate of Arts degree in 2026.

Likewise, Mariah also had years of experience working with different companies in Iowa.

She served as a cashier and Cake Decorator at Walmart and as a retail specialist at Goodwill of the Heartland in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where she happily lived with her family.

Mariah also worked at Unity Point Health-St. Luke’s Hospital at Cedar Rapids.

Furthermore, the untimely death of Mariah Ash has left a profound void in the lives of her family, friends, and loved ones.

Many of her loved ones are sharing Mariah’s memories on social media and extending their heartfelt condolences to her family during this difficult time.

The Cedar Rapids community has also created a GoFundMe to help Mariah’s family financially during this heartbreaking moment and to cover the funeral and memorial expenses.

Mariah Ash is Survived By Her Beloved Husband, Angel, daughter, Mariana, and The Entire Family

Mariah Ash was a devoted wife to her beloved husband, Angel Tamayo, and a great mother to their daughter, Mariana.

The couple had been together for over three years and welcomed their baby girl, Mariana, on December 19, 2026.

Angel Tamayo took to his social media to pay tribute to his late wife and shared a beautiful video of his late wife’s song with a heartfelt caption that reads:

“I know you hated your voice but I loved it so much. I know you’d hate that I’m posting this but I want anyone who’d be willing to listen to hear just how amazing your voice was.”

In addition to being an amazing wife to Angel and a great mother to Mariana, Mariah Ash was also a proud stepmother to Westyn.

She also leaves behind her mother, Tina Ash, brothers, Lucas Ash and Matt Dales, and the entire family.

Mariah Ash was preceded in death by her beloved father, Christopher Ash, who passed away on January 23, 2012, at the Cedar Valley Hospice House in Waterloo, Iowa, after a courageous battle with cancer at an untimely age of 41.

Mariah Ash’s contribution to the Iowa community as an amazing cheerleader and singer, as well as a proud mother, will always be remembered by her loved ones. Her family will soon provide details about her funeral and memorial services.
