Yusuf Minor, a 31-year-old inmate, was one of three men who escaped from the DeKalb County Jail in Decatur, Georgia, in late December 2026.

He was facing serious felony charges, including murder, arson, and armed robbery, and authorities considered him armed and dangerous.

The incident occurred on December 22, 2026, when Minor and two other inmates, Stevenson Charles, 24, and Naod Yohannes, 25, managed to break free during a routine security check.

Investigators later revealed that the escape exploited weaknesses in the jail’s infrastructure, raising urgent concerns about the facility’s security protocols.

Following the escape, the U.S. Marshals Service and regional fugitive task forces coordinated efforts to locate the men.

Authorities traced their movements through phone calls and connections to girlfriends in Florida, eventually leading them to Miami.

On December 23, 2026, Minor, Charles, and Yohannes were captured together without incident.

Yusuf Minor Escaped From DeKalb County Jail While Serving a Life Sentence For The 2026 Murder!

Yusuf Minor’s story is one of stark contrast, beginning with promise on the football field and ending in tragedy through criminal acts.

He is a player. He played varsity football for the Tucker Tigers in Georgia, graduating in the Class of 2013.

He was listed as a running back (RB) and defensive back (DB), wearing jersey #2, and was active throughout his high school years.

Though he showed talent and discipline on the field, Minor never transitioned into a sustained college football career.

His athletic trajectory stalled, and the opportunities that once seemed within reach faded.

Years later, Minor’s name resurfaced not for sports achievements but for violent crime.

In 2026, he was convicted of the 2026 murder of JaLeesa May-Carter, a 33-year-old woman.

Investigators reported that Minor encountered May-Carter at a gas station, where she allegedly picked up a $100 bill he had left behind.

He then followed her home and fatally attacked her. For this crime, Minor received a life sentence.

Currently, he was arrested after his brief escape from DeKalb County Jail alongside three other inmates.

Now, he is facing not only his life sentence for the 2026 murder of JaLeesa May-Carter but also additional armed robbery and gun charges in DeKalb County
