The name JB Brown in college football circles these days is usually tied to his sudden departure from Michigan in 2026.
The former Special Teams Coordinator was let go during his second season in Ann Arbor after a disappointing loss, bringing to a close a chapter that began with real promise when he was promoted in February 2026.
But behind every coach riding the rollercoaster of big-time football is someone keeping the family grounded, and for James “JB” Brown, that person is his wife, Jessica Brown (née Hancock).
The couple married in September 2017 in a beautiful Southern California ceremony.
They have since built a lively home with three young children: James Thomas Brown III, Jaxson, and their youngest (the Browns tend to keep the baby’s name a little more private on social media).
The family currently lives in Ann Arbor, Michigan, though with JB’s recent job change, plenty of fans are wondering where the Browns will stay in the area or head to a new location.
Long before she became known as JB Brown’s wife, Jessica carved out her own name in the softball world.
Born and raised in Long Beach, California, to parents Rodney and Karen Hancock, Jessica split her high school years between Millikan High and Wilson High, graduating from Wilson in 2004.
A four-year standout in both softball and volleyball, she earned All-Moore League honors every season, was voted team MVP twice, and took home Best Offensive Player three times.
She took her talents to, where she starred as a pitcher from 2005-2009 and earned a bachelor’s degree in communication.
Right after hanging up her cleats, Jessica jumped straight into coaching.
Jessica Hancock (Source: )She spent seven seasons (2010-2016) as the pitching coach at the University of the Pacific, ironically, the same school where her future husband, JB, was a standout baseball player a few years earlier.
In 2017, she moved to Kansas as a volunteer assistant coach for the Jayhawks softball program before stepping away to focus on starting her family.

Anyone who follows where she’s still active under her own name, knows she’s JB’s loudest cheerleader.
Whether it’s game-day photos in Michigan maize and blue, proud posts when the special teams force a big punt block, or just everyday family moments, Jessica gives followers a warm, authentic look at life as a married Power-4 coach’s wife.
Even after the tough news of JB’s firing, her timeline stayed positive and faith-filled, a reminder of the resilience it takes to be married to someone in this profession.
Though they both have deep ties to the University of the Pacific (JB as a baseball alum, Jessica as a longtime pitching coach), the two actually met after her time at UOP had ended.
Friends introduced them during JB’s early coaching days in the Big 12, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Since tying the knot in 2017, Jessica has followed JB from Kansas to Houston to Buffalo (where he was a senior defensive analyst with the Bills in 2026) and finally to Ann Arbor when Michigan hired him as an analyst in 2026.
Now that JB Brown is back on the coaching market at just 36 years old (born April 30, 1989, in Alvin, Texas), most expect him to land on his feet quickly.
He’s well-respected for his work with kickers, punters, and returners.
And wherever the next job takes him, one thing is sure: Jessica and their three kids will be right there cheering him on, just like they always have.
