Mr. Bernie Marchand, 67, had been bravely battling pancreatic cancer; now dead, he leaves a legacy that shines brightly forever.

The passing of Mr. Bernie Marchand has left a deep void in the education community that he served so diligently. He died peacefully in his sleep on September 29, 2026, in the presence of his loving family.

For nearly 20 years, Mr. Bernie served as a headmaster at Fairbairn College and transformed it into a better place.

While no independent obituary has appeared in major news outlets, Fairbairn College officially confirmed his passing through their social media. They extended their heartfelt condolences to the grieving family and remembered Mr. Bernie for his incredible leadership.

Mr. Bernie’s commitment to excellence and deep care for staff and learners left a lasting mark on everyone.

Under his leadership, Fairbairn College saw great progress and many modern updates over two decades. He focused on upgrading classrooms, adding new technology labs, improving sports facilities, and enhancing security measures.

Furthermore, Mr. Bernie’s fundraising events brought in much-needed resources for the school, improving academic progress. His untimely demise left the students, staff and nearby schools in shock prompting many tributes his way.

One of his admirers, Coba Jordaan reflected on how he shaped her into the educator she is today.

Likewise, Tayla Botha shared how he mentored her with encouraging notes on reports and believed in her potential. Mr. Bernie was the last of true leaders at Fairbairn College for the people he inspired and motivated in so many ways.

Mr. Bernie’s ability o overcome these hurdles helped Fairbairn College to thrive in difficult times.

He passed down the culture of integrity and resilience that still serves as a guide for the staff and students everyday. Mr. Bernie Marchand’s legacy continues through the school’s ongoing development and string system that he built with dedication.
