Former Basketball Player Dr. Benjamin Jack “Dr. Jack” Collinsworth, 94, Passes Away Leaving His Wife Roxie Barfield Collinsworth

Dr. Jack Collinsworth, a former basketball player, track runner, and member of the boxing team, passed away on Tuesday.

Dr. Jack graduated from Bryceland High School in 1947. He played basketball, ran track, and was a member of the boxing team.

As a member of the 4-H Club, he showed his beef animals at state fairs in Shreveport and Baton Rouge and was also an Eagle Scout.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved spending time in the woods and on the water.

His swimming ability enabled him to rescue a boy during a youth scout jamboree; he also rescued three men from the waters of Lake D’Arbonne as an adult.

Dr. Jack from Louisiana Polytechnic Institute (now Louisiana Tech University) in 1950. At Tech, he played on the freshman basketball team.

Afterward, Coach Jimmy Mize asked him to join the track team and run the two-mile race.

He was initiated into the Tech Letterman club in 1949 and was a member of the Phi Kappa Epsilon Fraternity.

After graduating from LA Tech in 1950, Dr. Jack taught at Ringgold High School for one year.

He then enlisted in the Marine Corps School in Quantico, Virginia, and served in operations under Colonel Nagree until the end of the Korean Conflict.

After his Marine services, he became a basketball and track coach and taught math until he became the Principal of Bienville High School.

Dr. Benjamin Jack Collinsworth Passed Away At The Age Of 94

According to the , Dr. Benjamin Jack Collinsworth passed away on Tuesday, September 30, 2026, at the age of 94.

However, the cause of death has not been revealed yet.

Close friends and relatives have poured their heartfelt condolences and sent prayers to Dr. Jack’s family, encouraging them to stay strong during this challenging time.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 4, 2026, at First Baptist Church of Ruston.

Interment will follow at Campground Cemetery in Bienville, LA, under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Homes.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Ruston, immediately preceding the service.

Dr. Benjamin Jack Collinsworth Is Survived By His Wife, Roxie Barfield Collinsworth

Dr. Benjamin Jack Collinworth was married to Eva Mae “Muffet” Shehee Collinsworth in 1935.

They were blessed with one son, Jeff McIntosh, and one daughter, Jennifer Evangelista.

Sadly, their married life ended following the tragic death of Eva in 1989.

Later, Benjamin tied the knot with Roxie Barfield Collinsworth. Roxie has kept a low profile on social media, so little is known about her personal life.

They were blessed with two daughters, Rebecca Kim Collinsworth and Leslie Sundy Collinsworth Ramsey, and three sons, Keith, Fen, and Sherri Collinsworth.

Benjamin also had 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Recently, his granddaughter, Meghan Miears, took to her Facebook handle and mourned the loss of Jack.
