Brookwood Elementary 4th Grader Duke Ommert Struck by Car After Playing With Friends: Family Prays for a Miracle
Doctors and family are closely monitoring Duke as he fights for his life.

Yesterday, October 13, Duke Ommert, a fourth grader at Brookwood Elementary, was struck by a car while crossing Lee Blvd after an afternoon of playing with friends.
He was to Overland Park Regional Hospital and later transferred by ambulance to Children’s Mercy Downtown, where he remains in critical condition.
Duke suffered a severe head injury and a fractured leg, and doctors are closely monitoring him.
His family is holding onto hope for a positive response in the coming days. “Right now, we need nothing short of a miracle,” one family friend.
Duke’s parents, Monica and Ryan, and his little sister Mila, a kindergartener at Brookwood, have remained steadfast in their faith.
Friends, classmates, and community members have also rallied behind the young boy, offering support and prayers.
Those who know Duke describe him as tough and determined, with the resilience to push through even the most challenging circumstances.
A prayer vigil will be held this evening, Tuesday, October 14, at 7:00 p.m. at Leawood Presbyterian Church to support Duke and his family.
Community members are encouraged to pray for his healing and for strength and comfort for his loved ones.
In addition to prayers, donations are being collected to help with Duke’s recovery.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to ensure that all contributions go directly to the Ommert family, consolidating any other circulating Venmo accounts.
Family members and friends continue to urge everyone to keep Duke and the Ommert family in their thoughts and prayers.
Messages of encouragement and support have poured in from classmates, neighbors, and even people outside Kansas City, reminding everyone that love and faith can travel far.
“Please, please, please pray all you can,” wrote Lawrence Marshall, a family friend.
“We know our Duke has got so much fight left in him. We love him.”
The community remains united, sending prayers, donations, and messages of hope as Duke Ommert fights for his life.
His strength, determination, and the outpouring of support from his loved ones give hope that he can overcome this devastating accident.
