The Milwaukee Brewers’ promising young left-handed pitcher Frank Cairone has been hospitalized following a serious car accident near his home in Franklinville, New Jersey, on Friday, January 2, 2026.

The team announced the news on Saturday, confirming that the 18-year-old prospect was receiving care at a hospital in the state with his family by his side.

Cairone, who turned 18 in September 2026, was selected by Milwaukee in the second round (68th overall) of as a compensatory pick for an unsigned previous selection (right-hander Chris Levonas, who chose Wake Forest).

The talented hurler hails from Delsea Regional High School in Franklinville, where he had a breakout senior season, striking out an impressive 94 batters over just 44 innings while touching the mid-90s with his fastball.

Scouts flocked to his stats, and he even drew guidance from longtime pitcher Bobby Witt Sr. during the draft process.

Standing at 6-foot-3 and around 215 pounds (with some reports noting 6-2, 195 earlier), Cairone showed enough promise to skip his commitment to Coastal Carolina and sign professionally for $1,097,500, below slot value.

He spent the late summer and fall of 2026 at the Brewers’ complex in Arizona, gearing up for what many expected to be an exciting pro debut in 2026.

Ranked as Milwaukee’s No. 26 prospect by MLB Pipeline and MiLB.com, he was viewed as a potential breakout arm in the farm system, with a projectable frame, solid arm action, and a promising curveball.
