Drea Mosley alleges that Hamilton County High School head football coach, Fay Reid, called out a child, Jayton Walls, the N-word, on social media.
Coach also used inappropriate music and dragged families into unnecessary drama long after the football season was over.
The high school sports field has become a place of humiliation and pain for some student-athletes when the person meant to lead them uses bullying and racist language.
Troubling incidents have surfaced where coaches have been accused of not just harsh criticism, but also using racial slurs, like the N-word, against their players.
A student targeted by such language from an authority figure feels isolated, disrespected, and devalued. It attacks their identity and can shatter their love for the game.
A coach’s job is to mentor and motivate, not to demean.
