Marcell Oliver, a Jackson High School Wrestler, passed away in a tragic accident that occurred early Sunday morning on 131 near Martin.

A woman was engaged in the collision, driving the wrong way on the highway and colliding head-on with another car.

A wrong-way driver on US-131 early Sunday morning caused a head-on collision that killed three people and left three others in critical condition.

According to Lt. Brandon Berens, calls about a vehicle traveling south in the northbound lanes began just after 1 a.m. near the 129th Avenue exit in Wayland.

The 38-year-old woman from Grand Rapids was originally headed in the correct direction before exiting the highway. Later, she entered a northbound off-ramp, made a U-turn, and drove the wrong way for approximately four miles.

A Gun Lake Tribal Police officer attempted to intercept the vehicle, but a head-on crash with another car occurred before the driver could be stopped.

The driver from Grand Rapids was killed alongside two male passengers in the front seat of the northbound car she struck. Three backseat passengers from that vehicle were critically injured.

Marcell Oliver Jr., the son of Lorrin Murray and Marcell Swear Oliver, was born in 2007 in Jackson, Michigan.

He was a beloved son, friend, and teammate, who was tragically taken from us in a car accident on Sunday morning on 131 near Martin.

Marcell was his mother’s only child and the apple of his father’s eye, a cherished light in their lives.

He was a quiet yet caring young man whose kindness and positive spirit left a lasting impact on all who knew him.

He graduated from Jackson High School in 2026, where he discovered his passion for wrestling. During his wrestling game, he demonstrated discipline, strength, and camaraderie.

Absolutely heartbroken for Lorrin Murray, Marcel Sr., Dorothy Murray, and the family. I have seen how they loved on him from the time of his conception and know that they are all going to need all of the prayers, love, and support they can hold to get through these next days, weeks, and months ahead. I love you, Cindy, Lorrin, and Marcel.

Marcell was a reserved person, but his gentle nature and the smile he brought to those around him made him a beloved figure within the school community.

He will be deeply remembered for his love for his family and friends, his commitment to wrestling, and the indelible mark he left as a fantastic member of the Class of 2026.
