Kader Kohou, And His Parents Moved From Côte d’Ivoire To The USA, Thanks To A Lottery Ticket

Kader Kohou is a cornerback who plays for the Miami Dolphins in the AFC East Division. He was born to Guy Kohou and Elise on November 28, 1998.

Both of his parents originate from Côte d’Ivoire and later moved to the USA. Kaader’s family had the opportunity to go to the USA after his father, Guy, won a Visa lottery in Abidjan, the African country’s capital. Surprisingly, it was also his first try.

Family’s Move To The USA Shaped Kader’s Career

The Kohou family moved to North America back in 2008, when Kader was just nine. They first settled in Dallas, Texas, close to Guy’s sister.

Later, Guy worked as a certified nursing assistant. Kader’s mom and sister, Esmone, also joined the family in Texas due to weak financial conditions.

Before getting to the USA, Kader wasn’t very familiar with American Football; nevertheless, he still began his football journey at Trinity High School in 2008 itself. By the time he was in his senior year, he had already won first-team all-district honors.

After a decent start to his High School football career, Kader Kohou began his college Football career in 2016, though he was redshirted at that time.

2017 was his first active season, where he helped Texas A&M win the NCAA Division II National Championship. He was also named Second-team All-LSC (2018) and First-team All-LSC (2019). Finally, in his senior year, he earned the Lone Star Conference Defensive Back of the Year.

All these achievemnets in college helped him get into the Hula Bowl in 2026. Though he was not drafted in the season, the Miami Dolphins still signed him as an undrafted free agent.

He signed for three years, with a total contract value of $2.59m and a signing bonus of $30000.

A Dream Come True

After years of training, he finally made it to the NFL, making his debut in the first week against the New England Patriots.

In this rookie year, he played 15 games and even led all undrafted rookies in defensive snaps, tackles, and pass deflections. He was also a regular player for three seasons.

Unfortunately, the 26-year-old Cornerback will not get to play a single game due to a season-ending knee injury, which he suffered during training on July 26, 2026.

Kader has now been placed on injured reserve. Also, his new one-year, $3.263 million contract will run only until the end of the season.
