LaFayette High School Football Coach John Millican III’s Wife, Heather Millican, a Head Basketball Coach, Battles Severe Burns Alongside Their Two Sons!

John and Heather were married for almost two decades.

John Millican III, LaFayette High School football coach, passed away after getting trapped in a back bedroom during a house fire at his home on Ridgewood Circle near Chickamauga on November 9, 2026.

It was supposed to be just another Sunday morning for the Millican family, but by 7:38 a.m., their world went upside down.

A call came in about smoke filling their home on Ridgewood Circle, and within minutes, firefighters were racing to the scene.

Upon reaching the scene, they found what was heartbreaking: heavy flames and thick smoke pouring from the front of the house at 127 Ridgewood Circle.

By the time they got there nine minutes later, Heather Millican and their two little ones, a 3-year-old and an 8-year-old, had made it out alive, but her husband, John Millican III, was still inside.

Sadly, John was found unconscious in a back bedroom. The firefighters didn’t hesitate; they pulled him out and rushed him to a nearby hospital. However, it was too late; he was pronounced dead.

John Millican III is survived by his wife of 18 years, Heather Millican, and their two young kids.

That said, Heather and the children didn’t escape without paying a heavy price. They suffered severe burns and were airlifted straight to the Vanderbilt Burn Center in Nashville for the kind of care you hope no family ever needs.

As of now, word on their condition is scarce, but everyone’s holding their breath, praying for some good news soon.

Heather and John were happily married for almost two decades, i.e., 18 years to be precise. They tied the knot on May 19, 2007.

Not only John, but his wife, Heather, also belongs to the sports fraternity. Heather Millican is the head girls’ basketball coach at LaFayette Middle School, Home of the Ramblers.

Similarly, she is also an assistant track and field coach at LaFayette Middle School, Home of the Ramblers.

Not to forget, is also the 6th-grade social studies teacher at LaFayette Middle School-Home of the Ramblers.

So far, the health update on Heather and her two kids remains unknown.

Officials say an autopsy is coming to figure out precisely what happened to him in those final moments.

The fire marshal, Scott Forrest, is digging into what started this nightmare.

Before working at LaFayette, John taught history at Dade County High School and served as a sprint coach for the track and cross-country teams.

So far, the funeral and memorial details of John haven’t been published by his family as they are processing the loss.

During this challenging time, we pray for the strength of John’s wife, kids, friends, and extended family. Likewise, we also pray for Heather and the kids’ speedy recovery.
