Lake Gibson HS Basketball Player Blue Scott Was Reported Missing After Leaving to Mourn a Friend — Found Safe, then Tragically Died in an Accident Just Days Later

LAKELAND, Florida. — Blue Scott, 19, the Lake Gibson HS Basketball player, lost his life on Saturday night after his motorcycle collided with a car on County Line Road, Polk County deputies say.

The crash occurred at about 9:54 p.m. when Scott was traveling northbound on a green-and-black Suzuki and a black Nissan Altima exited the parking lot of an O’Reilly Auto Parts warehouse, crossing the northbound lanes.

Scott tried to avoid the vehicle; the Altima moved into the median and into the motorcycle’s path. The teenager was pronounced dead at the scene.

It remains unclear whether the High School Basketball Player was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, although a helmet was located at the scene.

A eyewitness said, “I was there at the car meet and the helmet was strapped it’s not a common problem bit it’s a problem that the clips were faulty but it doesn’t matter the female driver driving the Altima made an illegal u turn and in the result she’s killed a 19 year old kid that was trying to get back to the car meet.”

Investigators suggest the driver of the vehicle was not wearing a seatbelt, but thankfully, was left uninjured. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit is currently handling the case.

The late teenager was also reported missing earlier to mourn a friend, but was later reunited with the family.

However, just a few days after the reunion with his mother and family members, a tragic incident shook the entire Polk County Community.

Biking Community Mourns the Loss

Neighbor Kathy Atkinson said Scott rode by their street the day after buying his motorcycle, a couple of months back, visited often, and “was trying to help me get my faith back.”

On his Instagram before the crash, Scott posted a message aimed at anyone struggling: that it’s OK not to be okay, that today’s darkness doesn’t erase tomorrow, and that “you matter.”

Friends say that the message was blunt, caring, and direct, reflecting how he treated people: with encouragement and steady support.

His mother wrote an emotional message after his passing,

“If I would have known. Blue, you can’t leave your momma here. You can’t please, please, please come back. Let it be a dream. I love you, my sweet boy. I love you, my sweet boy. I love you so much. They told me you died on impact, and that’s all I know right now. They told me you did not suffer. You did not deserve this. You touched so many lives, and everyone loved you. People tell me you were just too good for this world, and that’s why God took you. But dammit, I need you – it’s so hard to keep going. I feel like I’m still standing there in the road the night it happened, and I haven’t moved. Life keeps going on, but I’m still standing in the road where you took your last breath. This is so hard, Blue – I love you so much.”

Kayla Faith added, “He cared in a way people don’t care anymore. This is another loss that makes life feel different. Blu Scott, you were such an amazing person, and I’m so, so happy I got to know you and I got to give you that final hug the last time I saw you. I loved you, kid.”

A has also been started to help the family with funeral costs and provide a proper burial. The final rites, at the time of writing, have already taken place at the Gentry-Morrison funeral home.
