Parents in Livingston Parish are demanding accountability after serious allegations surfaced that referees used racial slurs toward Black student-athletes during a junior high football game between Walker and Albany.

The controversy began after a public post by local parent Jacki Francis in the Livingston Parish Rants & Raves Facebook group, sparking calls for action.

As per , her son and other Black players were repeatedly subjected to racist remarks from officials on the field.

She alleged that referees not only told players to “get their Black ass off the field,” but also referred to one wide receiver not by his number but simply as “Black boy.”

Francis wrote,

To the men who ref the Walker/albany junior high game… terrible sport to be in being that you are racist! Children/players/coaches all heard your language! They hear you call the kids nigg*r, and for them to get their black ass off the field. Sadly I found out after you cowardly ran to your car! Because I would have added your picture here too!!! Let’s hope that the principal truly does handle it. But just in case I’m starting here with handling it. And I won’t stop until you are no longer a ref. Racism is not needed in this cruel world. I only wish yall were bold enough to say it to a parents face! If anyone has their names let make these awesome men famous. Tag them below. I’d love to ask them what exactly my black son did wrong tonight to deserve to be downgraded And instead of calling the wide receiver out by his number you yelled at him and said by black boy!!!! I know this situation BETTER be handled by the higher up

Her post immediately gained dozens of responses from community members, who echoed her anger and disbelief.

Many parents expressed shock that such behavior could occur in 2026, in front of children, at a school sporting event.

One anonymous commenter wrote,

This is the worse thing I’ve heard of locally this year. Please do call the LHSSA and report the incident. He won’t be working another game. This is 2026 and absolutely no place for this type behavior anywhere! And especially not around our children. I am so very sorry for what these children and parents had to hear. If I had been there I would have gone to the sheriff working there and told them I wanted him arrested for a hate crime. To me it is a hate crime. I’m sure nothing would have been done but I would have a police report to show the LHSSA organization and put the attention on this AH then and there at the game. This probably sounds like an old woman rambling right now and it’s true I am. I’m just so angry I can’t act or think right. Please tell your son not all people are like that and it really should be a crime for that word to come out of anybody’s mouth.

Several commenters pointed out that the Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) assigns referees to games and urged Francis and others to file formal complaints.

Another anonymous commenter advised,

Call LHSAA headquarters and they can tell you who was there. They assign all of the refs to the games! This should not be tolerated at all!

Others questioned why coaches did not intervene during the game. Chad Debetaz, a graduate of LSU, ,

If the coaches heard this they are just as cowardly if they didn’t take their team off the field. It’s our job as coaches to protect the kids as if they are our own when they are between the lines… this is disgusting!

For some, the incident reflected broader concerns about accountability in youth sports. Iris Beadle Tamplain of Reserve, Louisiana, ,

This is what is wrong in today’s society!! Shame on the ref’s!! I hope you find out who the are and call them out further!! Take it as far as you can!! For adults to call children names is just so sad!! They should be setting examples!!

Some parents called for the referees involved to be permanently barred from officiating. Lisa Lambert Wilson, a graduate of Walker High School, wrote,

He needs to not ref in Livingston Parish! Are anywhere!

However, as of now, it is unclear whether an official complaint has been filed with the LHSAA or what disciplinary measures, if any, will follow.
