Gavin Thigh, a talented and beloved student-athlete at Lower Brule High School, passed away, leaving behind his family and the entire community.
Though the circumstances surrounding his demise remain unreported, it is likely that he passed away unexpectedly.
Gavin Thigh Was A Multi-Sport Athlete!
was born to a family with a strong sports background. His father, Russell Ronald Thigh, played basketball and softball during his younger years.
His passion for sports continued until an accident left him paralyzed, but he remained deeply connected to his family and community.
Tragically, on October 11, 2026, at the age of 49.
Gavin, who followed in his father’s footsteps, was a proud member of the Lower Brule High School boys’ varsity football team in South Dakota.
He wore jersey number #5 and played as a wide receiver and cornerback.
Gavin was 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighed 165 pounds, and graduated with the Class of 2026. He was renowned for his dedication and passion for the game.
During that time, he attended Lower Brule, where he has an impressive team history during his football journey.
He played for the Lower Brule High School Boys’ Varsity Football team in Lower Brule, South Dakota, from 2019 to 2026.
Additionally, he was a member of the GAFC Gyor Sharks Football team in Gyor, where he played from 2018 to 2026.
His dedication to the sport was evident through the years he spent with both teams, as he built his skills and passion for the game.
Beyond football, he was a for the Lower Brule Varsity Basketball team.
Wearing jersey number 5, he played as a guard and was known for his strong skills, quick movements, and commitment to the game.
As a member of the Class of 2026, Gavin made a lasting impact on the court during his high school years.
His recent passing has deeply saddened his family, friends, teammates, and the whole Lower Brule community.
One of his close friends recalled the memories with him, saying:

Similarly, one of Gavin Thigh’s closest family members shared a heartfelt tribute, saying:
Was there, went to all of your guys game’s, Neph. You guys definitely put Kul Wicas on the Map and made all of us proud in basketball and football. Seen you around before some of your guys games an each time you asked if I was going to be there an of course I was…Had to be there to support you guys because you guys made history.

Gavin has now joined his late parents. Though his life was cut short, his memory and legacy will be remembered forever.
