Landin Bodine, an 18-year-old football player from Mt. Zion High School, suffered a gunshot wound at the Sportsman Club and was pronounced dead at Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division arrested a 23-year-old Joshua J. Gregg in connection with the shooting following investigative work.

Landin Bodine died following a shooting at a Decatur park.

Decatur Police responded to Sportsman Park on East Lost Bridge Road on the evening of December 5 and found the footballer suffering from a gunshot wound.

He was transported to Decatur Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

After an investigation, detectives arrested Joshua J. Gregg, who faces preliminary charges of involuntary manslaughter and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities ask anyone with information to contact the Decatur Police Criminal Investigations Division at 217-424-2734 or Crimestoppers at 217-423-8477.

Landin Bodine, the son of and , was born in 2007 in Decatur, Illinois. His parents raised him in a close-knit family alongside his brother, Carter.

He was a beloved son, brother, and friend who left this world far too soon.

Landin’s father, Jason Bodine, works at the .

He has taken a leave to be with his family, to grieve, and to walk through this valley leaning on God’s strength.

Landin’s mother, Amanda White, is the owner of A Rae of Sunshine Cleaning Services and a student at EnRich at Richland Community College.

Jason and Amanda have moved forward on separate paths. However, they are united now in carrying a weight no parent should ever have to bear.

Jason is in a relationship with , and Amanda is married to .

This kid was such a fun person. He was always so funny and so respectful to me. I loved him like my own. This whole thing is so hard for me to wrap my head around. But please keep my kids, his family, and all his friends in your prayers. We love you, Landin Bodine. Rest easy, kiddo 💔

Landin was a young man full of life, with a big heart and a quick smile. His presence filled every room he entered, and he was finding his way in the world.

He was a young man who loved deeply and was loved deeply in return.

Landin carried his faith with him, with Scripture marked on his arm. His parents take comfort in believing the Lord is now holding him in peace that this world could never give.

I only known Landin for a few months while working at Krekels, but yet it feels like I knew him a lifetime. He was the sweetest, kindest kid, always was a talker and an open book. I’ll definitely miss working with you and talking to you, bud🩵
