Paxon School Basketball and Softball Star Kennedy Waymer Gains Her Wings After Courageous Battle With Bone Cancer

The Northeast Florida sports community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of one of its most gifted athletes, Kennedy Ashley Waymer, who passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Her passing has left an undeniable void in the hearts of her family, teammates, and all who admired her remarkable talent and strength.
Pound-for-pound, Kennedy was one of the most extraordinary all-around athletes the region has ever seen.
Standing just 5 feet 2 inches tall, she an exceptional athletic ability that transcended sports.
She played basketball, softball, flag football, and volleyball at Paxon School for Advanced Studies.
Her list of accomplishments was long and impressive. She was named Offensive MVP in softball and earned a spot on the Gateway All-Conference team for both basketball and softball three consecutive years (2026, 2026, 2026).
She also made the Duval Sports All-Area Girls Basketball Team, proving that size was no barrier to greatness.
In basketball, Kennedy was a lightning-fast point guard who averaged 12.1 points, 2.5 assists, and 1.1 steals per game in her junior year.
Her career stats reflected her consistency and leadership on the court, with 12.3 points and 2.8 assists per game.
In softball, she was known as the “quintessential slapper,” using her incredible speed to get on base and steal with ease.
Her 2026–2026 season included career highs with a .435 batting average and .500 on-base percentage.
Kennedy committed to the College of Coastal Georgia and proudly signed her letter of intent to play women’s softball.
Her future shone brightly, and she proved to everyone around her that there wasn’t anything she couldn’t do.
Kennedy’s athletic achievements were extraordinary, but her strength during her cancer battle revealed her true greatness.
Her resilience and positive spirit inspired those around her, even in her most difficult moments.
The news of her passing brought an outpouring of love and tributes from teammates, coaches, and the entire Jacksonville community.
Tampa Mustangs Fastpitch, her travel softball team, shared a heartfelt message:
“Our beloved Kennedy, ‘wheels in the outfield,’ has earned her angel wings. She courageously fought her battle with cancer and is now at peace. We celebrate her life and the inspiration she brought to all those around her. We love you Kennedy and will always treasure the memories we shared with you.”
Paxon School also honored her memory after a volleyball victory, it a “bittersweet win.”
Kennedy was more than an athlete at Paxon — she was an International Baccalaureate scholar, a team leader, and a shining example of character and perseverance.
Kennedy’s passing has touched countless lives. Friends, former teammates, and community members shared messages of love and remembrance. Rily Andrews, a close friend, wrote:
“Kennedy, I am so grateful God placed you into my life. You were a light in every room. I will forever miss you and can’t wait for the day we meet again.”

Family and friends will to celebrate Kennedy’s life and legacy at Greater Macedonia Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Florida.
