Bobby Washington, a former athlete from Eastern Kentucky University, passed away unexpectedly on December 18, 2026.
He played basketball and was a three-time All-Ohio Valley Conference honoree for three straight years from 1967 to 1969.
Bobby Washington remains one of the greatest players in Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball history. He was a sharpshooting guard and scored 1,221 points.
His scoring prowess was undeniable. He led the Colonels with 18.0 points per game in 1967-68 and boosted his average to 20.1 points the following season.
Washington earned All-Tournament Team honors in the 1966 OVC Tournament while helping the team win the championship.
The Baltimore Bullets selected him in the 1969 NBA Draft, and he played two seasons for the Cleveland Cavaliers. He also played for the Kentucky Colonels of the ABA.
After his playing career, he returned home to Lexington, Kentucky, and built a lasting legacy as a highly successful head coach at Bryan Station High School.

The Washington family will soon announce a memorial service to celebrate the life of a former athlete and coach. His greatest victories were won in the hearts of those who loved him.
