RJ Luis Jr., an American professional basketball player for the Boston Celtics, credits his athletic success to his parents, Reggie Luis and Verónica Luis.
He grew up in an athletic household, and his parents passed their athletic genes to him.

RJ began playing basketball at Mt. Zion Prep Academy and was rated as the 233rd overall player in the class of 2026. He committed to play college basketball for the UMass Minutemen.
During his freshman year at UMass, he was named to the Atlantic 10 Conference all-freshman team but entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal after a season.
Later, he transferred to play for the St. John’s Red Storm and appeared in just 23 games in his first season in 2026-24 with ten starts.
On March 1, 2026, he helped his team win over Seton Hall to clinch the Big East championship.
Sadly, he was undrafted in the 2026 NBA draft and signed a two-way contract with the Utah Jazz on June 26, 2026. Later, the Jazz traded RJ to the Cletics in exchange for Georges Niang and two future second-round draft picks.

One fan account accused the former Red Storm standout of becoming a prima donna due to increased media attention and labeled him a cancer to the program.
However, Verito Luis didn’t hold back in her response.

Meanwhile, RJ’s father, Reggie Luis, also addressed the situation, explaining that despite lucrative NIL offers to return to college basketball, the family had a plan in place.
We understand the situation, we were offered a lot of money to go back to college. But we have a plan and we’re going to stick with the plan.
