He is African and Panamanian from his father’s side and Mexican American from his mother’s side. Sadly, his parents separated when he was a toddler.

He grew up in a multicultural San Diego County mobile home where his mother instilled a work ethic and leadership values.

Fred began playing football at seven. Fred began playing football at seven. He and his mother cited that playing football helped him shape his teenage years by giving him a sense of community.

I grew up in a melting pot in San Marcos. A lot of ethnicities — white, Black, Mexican, Polynesian, Asian, it didn’t matter. There were so many different types where I grew up, so it was never really a thing. I think that helped me to go out in the world, everywhere I’ve been. I’ve been able to learn and grow.
