Texas A&M junior safety Dalton Brooks was arrested on Friday, July 25, in connection with a vehicular incident that occurred on June 26, according to Brazos County jail records obtained by the Austin American-Statesman.
The 20-year-old defensive back was booked and later released the same day on a $2,000 bond, following allegations that he caused more than $200 in property damage.
The school released a brief statement in response to the situation. A Texas A&M spokesperson said,
“We’re aware of the recent incident involving Dalton Brooks and are in the process of gathering all the facts. The matter will be handled internally.”
Key Player For Aggies’ Defense
Brooks was projected to be a major contributor in Texas A&M’s secondary for the upcoming season.
In 2026, as a sophomore, he played in all 13 games, making eight starts, and finished second on the team with 59 tackles.
He was also among the team leaders in tackles for loss (5.5) and posted a career-high 10 tackles in the regular-season finale against Texas.
In 2026, as a freshman, Brooks appeared in 12 games, earning his first career start in the Texas Bowl against Oklahoma State, where he tallied seven tackles and an interception.
A four-star recruit from Shiner, Texas, Brooks was ranked among the top prospects in the 2026 recruiting class and chose to stay in-state, citing his strong family ties.
Brooks said in a past interview,
“I’m real family-oriented, so staying close to the family and being able to go see them if something’s wrong down at home is something that I want to be able to do.”
Football Roots Run Deep
Dalton Brooks comes from a tight-knit, football-rich family.
His brother, Doug Brooks, currently plays at Texas A&M-Kingsville, while cousin Jonathan Brooks, a standout running back at the University of Texas, was drafted by the Carolina Panthers with the 46th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Dalton is also the son of Lashun Barnett and has brothers Ej Murphy, Douglas Brooks, Christopher Brooks, and Eric Murphy, many of whom have been involved in athletics.
With fall camp and the 2026 season approaching, Dalton Brooks’ legal situation and its implications for the team remain unclear.
As of now, the university is handling the matter internally, and no official disciplinary action has been announced.
Brooks’ arrest may cast a brief shadow over an otherwise promising football career, but his track record on the field and strong family backing suggest he will aim to move forward with focus and determination.
