Westcoact Lawmen Softball Player and CSP‑SAC Correctional Officer Marcus Monzon Passes Away Unexpectedly

Marcus Monzon, a correctional officer at California State Prison–Sacramento and a longtime player for the Westcoast Lawmen softball team, died unexpectedly on December 3, 2026.
Monzon began with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation in April 2026. He trained at the Richard A.
McGee Correctional Training Center in Galt and, after graduating from the Basic Correctional Officer Academy, reported to CSP-SAC in July 2026.
Numerous Tributes from Friends and Colleagues
Colleagues say he brought a steady work ethic and quiet professionalism to the job.
On the diamond, he was all in. Teammate Monica Grider called him “a good friend, a coworker, and a team player,” adding, “FOREVER A PART OF THE TEAM, ALWAYS IN OUR HEARTS.”
Joshua Garcia wrote that it was an honor to have Monzon on the team and that Marcus “BLACK CUB” will be sorely missed.

Monzon grew up in Imperial, California. He attended Imperial High School and later studied at Imperial Valley College. His social feeds were full of sports, softball, and football.
The late correctional officer often posted game-day moments. He was also an avid Los Angeles Dodgers fan.

Richard Bradford called him “a great guy gone too soon.” Ricky Bobbi wrote, “Officer Marcus Monzon gone too soon, brother. Keeping you in my prayers.”
Monzon himself had written about missing the field: “I miss swinging the bat and playing ball with everyone, but hope to get back out soon.”
That line captured how central sports were to his life, a place where he belonged and enjoyed, even though he was serving the nation
