Northglenn, Colorado Native and Former Sterling College Football Standout Ellijah Durrett Passes Away, Survived by Parents Calvin and Rebecca and Family

The Northglenn, Colorado community is mourning the untimely death of beloved native and former high school and collegiate football standout, Ellijah Durrett.

Ellijah Durrett passed away on Tuesday morning, January 13, 2026; however, details surrounding his untimely death have not been disclosed yet by the family. He was in his late 20s.

A native of Colorado, Ellijah Durrett was a cherished member of the Colorado and Kansas sports community and touched the lives of many with his remarkable athletic career.

Elijah began his at Faith Christian Academy (Forge Christian High School) in Arvada, Colorado, playing varsity football and varsity track and field.

A 2017 graduate of Forge Christian, Ellijah played varsity football as a cornerback and running back, wearing jersey #28, and also competed in varsity track and field.

Known for his speed and agility, he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.5 seconds and the 100-meter dash in 11.64 seconds.

His strength and conditioning were equally impressive, with a 235-pound bench press, 315-pound squat and deadlift, and a 285-pound clean.

Ellijah’s football career began in youth leagues with the Arvada 8th Grade Wildcats and progressed through Forge Christian, where he helped lead his team to a 5-0 league record as a senior and achieved state and national rankings.

After high school, he continued his athletic journey at Sterling College, contributing to their football program as a defensive back.

His contribution to the sports community, as an amazing football career and his kind nature, will always be remembered.

The untimely death of Ellijah Durrett has left a profound void in the lives of his family, friends, and loved ones.

Many of his loved ones are sharing Elijah’s memories on social media and extending their heartfelt condolences to his family during this difficult time.

One wrote:

“Whether it was the endless football, getting Dairy Queen cotton candy blizzards, getting grounded the day after we got our licenses, or even getting the same first job – it was together. Forever grateful the Lord blessed me with you at such a transformational time in my life. We moved to the opposite sides of the country after high school and we didn’t see each other much. But now I’m looking forward to seeing you in heaven.”

“I can’t even begin to express how heart breaking this is.. Ur smile lit up the darkest rooms.. u will forever be my best friends handsome son( how I introduced u to everyone) u will definitely be missed & I love u Ellijah!!Plz keep my best friend & his family in ur thoughts & prayers.. we are definitely gonna need them!!”

Ellijah Durrett is survived by his mother, Rebecca Ross, father, Calvin Durrett, siblings, Kiara, Bella, Ciara, Reshana, and Charley; and the entire family.

The community has organized a for Ellijah’s family as they navigate the loss of their beloved member and help ease their financial burden with unexpected funeral expenses.

Ellijah’s family will soon provide details about his funeral and memorial services.
