Mason Kraese, a former high school football star and firefighter, passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2026, at an untimely age of 27, leaving his family, friends, and loved ones devastated.
While his family hasn’t provided many details about his untimely death, according to some social media posts, the South Huntington, New York native, Mason Kraese, lost his life in a tragic accident.
Mason Kraese touched the lives of many with his amazing athletic skills and his service to the country as a firefighter.
Furthermore, he was a standout at Walt Whitman High School in Huntington Station, from which he graduated in 2016.
Mason played varsity football as a free safety (#83). Standing 6’0”, he contributed significantly to the team throughout his high school career.
In his senior year (2015), he helped lead Walt Whitman to a 3-5 record in league play, earning a state ranking of #373.
Although Mason Kraese didn’t pursue his sports journey professionally, he continued to contribute to his community as a great firefighter.
He was serving as a firefighter at Huntingto Manor Fire Department and working at Steamfitters Local Union 638.
Social Media is Filled With Tributes To Late Mason Kraese
The untimely death of Mason Kraese has left a profound void in the lives of his family, friends, and loved ones.
Many of his loved ones are recalling the memories of the late South Huntington, New York native, Mason, and extending their heartfelt condolences to his family during this difficult time.
Huntington Manor Fire Department took to their official to pay tribute to their firefighter and wrote:
“It is with deep sadness the Chiefs office regrets to announce that Firefighter Mason Kraese has answered his last alarm. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Kraese and Steenson families.Rest in Peace brother you will be missed.”
Another added:
“Mason, it doesn’t feel real. You were the kindest soul I had the pleasure to call my friend.I was so blessed I had the opportunity to host a few Jeep meets with you back in 2019. I’ll always cherish those United Liberty’s/ Grand Team memories. You truly were amazing, Mason.Fly high friend 🪽❤️”
Mason Kraese is survived by his parents, Phillip ‘Phil’ Kraese and Mary Beth Steenson Kraese, two younger brothers, Colton and Gunner, and the whole family.
Both his mother, Mary Beth, and father, Phil, took to their social media to pay tribute to their late son.

The post reads:
“You were the first little boy to give me the title of Mommy… Now you will be my forever Angel… and forever 27 👼💙🙏”
Furthermore, late Mason Kraese followed in the footsteps of his parents, Mary Beth and Phil, both of whom are firefighters.
, Phil, serves as a volunteer firefighter at Huntington Manor Fire Department and is a local 638 steamfitter at Industrial Pipe Works.
Similarly, Mason’s mother, Mary Beth, a professional social media and networking consultant at Creative Consulting of Long Island, served as a volunteer firefighter at Huntington Manor Fire Department for nearly 15 years.
also served as an EMS Provider at Huntington Community First Aid from 1991 to 2016 and currently serves as the founder and executive board member of Huntington Matters, as well as a member of the board of directors at Caregivers for Life.
Similarly, the late Mason also inherited his athletic genes from his mother, Mary Beth, who has been serving as a volunteer assistant football coach for the Suffolk County Police Athletic League since 2015, leading her team to victory in the 2015 PAL Suffolk County Championships 9/10 Division.
