Aaron Benson, a former Texas Longhorns linebacker, sadly passed away in January 2026, likely in his early thirties.

His family has chosen not to reveal the cause of his death, remaining silent during this difficult time.

Friends, teammates, and the football community are mourning his loss, remembering him not only for his talent on the field but also for his dedication and character off it.

Born in Dallas, Texas, was known for his athleticism and commitment, also competing in track and field and powerlifting.

He came from a football family, with his cousin Cedric Benson having played running back at Texas and in the NFL.

Also, he was coached by Joey McGuire at Cedar Hill High School.

During his career, Benson played in 14 games across four seasons before stepping away from football in 2014.

He redshirted his freshman year in 2010, gained experience on the scout team, and went on to contribute as a reserve linebacker and special teams player.

His highlights include playing in the 2010 Under Armour All-America Game and being ranked among ESPNU’s Top 150 national prospects.

Additionally, he also earned recognition on the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll in 2011.

In Texas, he recorded three career tackles, with his last coming against New Mexico State in 2013.

Furthermore, in high school at Cedar Hill, he was a standout prep-All American, posting nearly 300 tackles, 12 sacks, and multiple forced turnovers over three seasons, helping his team to a state championship and several deep playoff runs.

His sudden passing has left a deep sense of sorrow among his family, friends, and the football community.

One of his friends lamented in her Facebook post, sharing with deep emotion how shocked she was to hear about Aaron Benson’s passing.

She recalled growing up with him, fighting and laughing together, and even spending time in the studio, further saying:

Today I got a text from my brother, saying that you, Aaron Benson aka AB out all ppl is now gone it dont even feel right saying RIP… my heart in so much disbelief, we grew up together, fight with each other play in the studio together this is a hard pill to swallow… praying for the family you will truly be missed…..and now you gone a day before my dad death anniversary….

I hate January my hardest month…

Asking prayers for my cousin Nena and fam at the passing of her sweet son Aaron Benson.

Though he is gone, his memory will live on forever. Our heartfelt condolences go out to Aaron Benson‘s family, friends, and well-wishers.
