Texas State Freshman And Former Veteran Memorial High School Football Player Cameron Hernandez Critically Injured by Alleged Drunk Driver; Mother Jenn Hernandez Pleads for Prayers

A dream to start his new journey took a tragic turn when Cameron Hernandez, a Corpus Christi, Texas native and freshman football player at Texas State, suffered multiple injuries in a violent incident.
According to a recent social media post, Cameron Hernandez, a freshman at Texas State, was struck by an alleged drunk driver while he was simply walking across campus.
The post further added that Cameron Hernandez was severely injured and is now in the ICU, fighting for his life.
Cameron’s mother, Jennifer ‘Jenn’ Hernandez, describes him as a kind, good-hearted young man who doesn’t deserve this pain.
As the news gains attention, many are praying for his speedy recovery. They are outraged, demanding that Texas police take serious action against the driver and implement stricter policies regarding drunk driving.
One wrote:
“Lifting prayers !!! This is so upsetting and heartbreaking. ❤️🩹 prayers for a full recovery. I hope the DRUNK idiot is held responsible. No excuse to drive drunk. Uber literally cost dollars 💵. You have ruined families lives by your poor .. irresponsible behavior. Shame on you.”
Another added:
“🙏 Please keep Cameron in your prayers, and lift up his mom, Jenn, and their entire family as they face this unimaginable fight.”
Cameron Hernandez is a Former Veterans Memorial High School Multi-Sport Athlete
Before beginning his new journey at Texas State, won the hearts of many with his amazing athletic skills, excelling in multiple sports at Veterans Memorial High School.
He was a member of both the Boys’ varsity soccer and football teams, leading his team to several victories.
Standing 6’0”, Cameron excelled as a defender on the boys’ varsity soccer team, wearing jersey #23.
During his senior season in 2026, he helped lead the team to a 19-6-1 overall record and a 13-2-1 district record, earning a second-place finish in the district. The team achieved a national ranking of #1473 and a state ranking of #380.
In addition to soccer, Cameron also played varsity football at Veterans Memorial, showcasing his versatility and athletic talent throughout his high school career.
Prior to attending Veterans Memorial High School, Cameron Hernandez played soccer and football for the Dolphins at Harold C. Kaffie Middle School.
