William Blount High School Football Player Roy “Shannon” Nabors, 17, Passed Away Following Medical Complications!

Even after Shannon's passing, his body was able to give life and hope to others through organ donation.

Roy “Shannon” Nabors III was a bright and kind 17-year-old from Louisville, Tennessee, who passed away on July 27, 2026, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

As per the , while playing baseball, he experienced a sudden health crisis, where he began gasping for air and showed signs of severe distress.

He was rushed to the ER and later transferred to Vanderbilt Medical Center’s pediatric cardiovascular ICU.

Doctors diagnosed him with CTEPH (Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension), caused by blood clots in both lungs and the right side of his heart.

His condition required a major surgery called a Pulmonary Endarterectomy. Despite undergoing a complex surgery, Shannon tragically passed away.

Shannon Nabors Was a Passionate Young Student-Athlete!

Born on January 7, 2008, Shannon was a student at William Blount High School and played on the football team.

He also loved baseball and played with the Maryville Little League and the ICE travel team.

His love for sports was matched by his sharp memory for game stats and his ability to talk about any game with energy and excitement.

Beyond sports, Shannon enjoyed beach trips, video games, and spending time with friends and family.

Shannon’s untimely passing has left a void in the heart of his extended family and the whole Louisville community.

The released a statement describing him as a light to everybody, which further reads:

Today, we want to honor the life of one of our very own players this past season, Roy Shannon Nabors. Shannon was a light to everybody on and off the field, and he was the epitome of a true teammate. There will be no player spotlights posts today. No championship posts. Nothing baseball related will be posted today. We want everybody to shift a perspective and take note that there are things bigger than baseball. We hope Shannon is at peace in Heaven with our God, and we believe that Shannon would want us to be grateful for the little things that we look past every single day. Today, our focus is on him, while we honor his life. If you are able and willing to financially support Shannon’s family as well, there is a GoFundMe link attached below to support his family in this difficult time.

The fundraiser was launched to support Shannon and his family during a critical medical emergency.

Shannon was , Roy Nabors and Kristi Nabors, and his grandmother, Phyllis Onks.

He is survived by his sister, Kaitlyn Onks; his grandparents, Steven Onks, Roy and Beverly Nabors; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends.

The funeral and visitation for Shannon Nabors III will be held on Sunday, August 3rd, 2026, at Smith Trinity Chapel in Maryville, Tennessee.
