Darren Markland, a renowned Canadian intensive care doctor and avid cyclist, passed away on Monday, September 22, 2026, at an untimely age, leaving his family and loved ones devastated.
While his family hasn’t yet released any statement regarding his untimely death, according to some reports, Dr. Darren Markland died in a tragic mountain bike accident in Clearwater County.
Furthermore, the untimely death of Dr. Darren Markland left a profound void in the lives of his loved ones.
The whole Edmonton, Alberta, community is paying tribute to the late Darren Markland and extending their heartfelt condolences to his family during this difficult time.

Darren Markland touched the lives of many with his amazing athletic skills and his love for his patients.
He was an avid cyclist and often went biking and canoeing. His social media is filled with pictures of his adventurous life, frequently travelling to different beautiful places.
Late Darren Markland Was a Renowned Doctor Who Worked at Several Prestigious Hospitals
In addition to being an avid cyclist, Darren Markland was a skilled intensive care doctor and nephrologist, helping thousands of patients in Edmonton, Alberta.
Darren attended Memorial Composite High School and earned his Medicine degree from the University of Calgary. He also attended the University of Alberta.
Likewise, Darren sacrificed his nephrology practice to focus on critical care, working as an intensive care doctor for decades until his recent passing.
He worked as an Intensive Care Physician at Kignsway Nephrology.
Darren also served as an intensive care physician and nephrologist at the University of Alberta Hospital and the Royal Alexandra Hospital.
Similarly, Darren served on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic for years, and for his remarkable contribution and commitment to the community, he the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal.
Dr. Darren Markland’s journey as an avid cyclist and amazing doctor will always be remembered.
