Carmel High School Mourns Ice Hockey Star, Xander Wittbrod-Rouse: “He meant so much to our small hockey family and he really was the definition of who we are”
Many of his loved ones are paying tribute to late Xander Wittbrod-Rouse on social media.

Alexander ‘Xander’ Wittbrod-Rouse, a Carmel, Indiana native and Carmel High School student-athlete, passed away on Sunday, October 5, 2026, at an untimely age, leaving his family and loved ones shattered.
Carmel High School’s ice hockey team, the Carmel Ice Hounds, announced the tragic news on their official social media; however, the team did not disclose the cause of Xander Wittbrod-Rouse’s death.
Likewise, his family has also not released a statement as they are currently grieving and prefer to maintain privacy during this difficult time.
Through the post, Coach Nick recalled the memories of Xander Wittbrod-Rouse, who was the heart of the junior varsity ice hockey team, and extended his heartfelt condolences to his family during this difficult time.
The post reads:
“This is difficult to write and I am still processing it all but I feel it’s necessary. Yesterday we lost a player, #75 Xander Wittbrod-Rouse. It’s every coaches worst nightmare and it still doesn’t feel real. Xander was a wonderful, kind, respectful young man with the biggest heart and smile to match. Some would say a gentle giant.”
He further remembered Xander as a perfect player to coach, who brought immense joy to the rink every day and was someone who was looked up to by many.
“Over the last 3 years it has been amazing to see him grow not only as a player but as a person. He was looked up to by so many. His work ethic was unmatched on the ice and His progress as a player really motivated me. Im going to miss his questions after film as he really strived to be his best daily and helping him understand the game was an honor. His teammates loved him and he loved being a Carmel Icehound. He meant so much to our small hockey family and he really was the definition of who we are. Xander was the best of us. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and He will be severely missed by all. We love you Xander!”💛💙 – Coach Nick.”
Late Xander Wittbrod-Rouse excelled in Multiple Sports
touched the lives of many with his exceptional athletic skills at Carmel High School and his cheerful, kind nature.
He began his athletic journey at a very young age, learning to skate and play ice hockey at just three.
Xander began his ice hockey journey playing on an 8U hockey team with IYHA house and played for the IYHA house league until his recent demise.
In addition to his ice hockey journey, Xander excelled in multiple sports, including wrestling and football.
As a defenseman for the Carmel Ice Hounds JV hockey team, he was a key player on the ice, standing at a towering height of 6’3”, and led his team in several victories.
Furthermore, his passion for sports extended beyond the rink, as he for the Carmel High School Varsity Football team, demonstrating his strength, discipline, and athleticism.
In addition to his football and hockey achievements, Xander was also a talented wrestler, earning third place in the 245-pound weight class at the Middle School Hamilton County, Indiana, Tournament.
Xander Wittbrod-Rouse’s athletic journey and his joyful nature will always be remembered by his family, friends, and loved ones.
He is survived by his parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts, younger brother, and the entire family.
