DeKalb, Illinois Community Mourns Legendary DeKalb High School Head Football and Track Coach, Timothy ‘Tim’ Holt, 75, Survived by Wife Pamela

The DeKalb, Illinois, community is mourning the death of beloved longtime coach, Timothy ‘Tim’ Holt.

Timothy Holt on Saturday, November 29, 2026, peacefully at his home at the age of 75, leaving his family, friends, and loved ones devastated.

Born on October 30, 1950, in Chicago, Illinois, Tim Holt began his athletic journey from a very young age, excelling in multiple sports.

He was a cherished member of the Chicago and DeKalb, Illinois, sports community and touched the lives of many with his amazing coaching skills and cheerful nature.

Tim Holt served as a longtime head football and track & field coach at DeKalb School District, guiding young athletes in their sports careers and building a reputation as a legendary high school coach.

He was the head boys’ football and track coach at DeKalb High School. Having started his journey in 1982, Tim led his boys’ track team in several victories until his retirement in 2026.

Late Tim Holt built a lasting legacy within DeKalb’s boys’ track and field program, guiding athletes with dedication, discipline, and heart.

His coaching tenure appeared during the 2010s, including leading the team through several successful seasons from 2012–2018 and the standout 2013–14 campaign, when DeKalb earned a 3A sectional title.

The passing of Timothy Holt has left his students and loved ones devastated. Many of his loved ones recall the memories of the late legendary DeKalb High School coach and extend their heartfelt condolences to his family during this difficult time.

One wrote:

“As a coach, teacher, mentor and eventually colleague, I learned a great deal from Tim. I feel fortunate that our paths in life crossed. Thank you for some great lessons learned.”

“You are forever in my heart Coach Holt. Thank you for believing in me when no one else did. Thank you for being a REAL coach and doing it for the right reasons. Thank you for all the lessons and guidance. Your work lives on through me. I will always carry your message and be a light for others the same way you were for me. You are always remembered🖤”

Timothy Holt is survived by his longtime wife, Pamela Holt, his siblings, nieces, nephews, and the entire family.He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie G. Holt and Shirley Davis Holt.

Tim’s father, Leslie Holt, passed away on May 26, 2014, at the age of 88. He served proudly in the U.S. Navy, a WWII veteran.

Likewise, his mother, Shirley Mae Holt Davis, passed away on August 18, 2007, at the age of 78. Shirley served as a bookkeeper for St. James Hospital for 40 years.

A celebration of life to honor the late Tim Holt will be held in the spring of 2026, and the family will soon provide details about his memorial and funeral services.
