Jonathan Jordan, a Chicago Heights, Illinois native and former collegiate track and field star, passed away on Monday, October 6, 2026, at an untimely age.

His family announced the tragic news through a social media post; however, they didn’t reveal the actual cause of Jonathan Jordan’s untimely death.

Many of his loved ones are paying tribute to the late Jonathan Jordan and extending their heartfelt condolences to his family during this difficult time.

Jonathan Jordan was a cherished member of the Illinois community, known for his impactful ministry and impressive athletic skills.

He developed his athletic skills at a young age, playing multiple sports, but track and field was the one he was genuinely passionate about.

Furthermore, Jonathan Jordan began his track and field journey while attending Bloom High School, where he won the hearts of many as a legendary long jumper and was also a state champion.

He graduated from Bloom High School in 1992 and further continued his athletic career at California State University, Los Angeles.

After a remarkable journey at Bloom High School, the late Jonathan Jordan also won the hearts of many with his collegiate athletic career.

for the California State University, Los Angeles’ men’s track & field team and led his team to several victories throughout his tenure.

Jonathan Jordan earned All-America honors in track and field in 1996 and 1998.

Similarly, in 1996, he won CCAA championships in the long jump and triple jump, and went on to win NCAA Division II titles in the indoor and outdoor triple jump.

Jordan also won the 1998 NCAA Outdoor Triple Jump Championship and is listed second in the triple jump and third in the long jump in college history.

For his remarkable athletic journey at California State University, Los Angeles, he was inducted into the college’s Track & Field Hall of Fame in 2007.

Although Jonathan Jordan didn’t continue his career as an athlete, he went on to impact the lives of many as a minister.

After graduating from California State University in 1999 with a degree in criminal justice and health science, Jordan received a Doctor of Divinity degree from Tabernacle Bible College and Seminary in Tampa, Florida.

Since 2000, Jordan served as the youth pastor of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Cathedral until his recent demise. He taught Bible study to youth, facilitated the youth prison ministry, initiated the Big Brothers Mentoring Program, and provided pastoral care. He was also consecrated as a bishop.

Jonathan Jordan is survived by his children, Krista Imani, Trenton ‘TJ’ Jordan, former wife, Kristal Scott, and father, Bishop Willie L. Jordan, siblings, and the entire family.
