Former Huntley High School Cheerleader, Zoe Lucas Dies at 26, After Bravely Fighting MNGIE For Three Years!

Zoe Grace Lucas, 26, of Lake in the Hills, passed away peacefully at home after a courageous battle with Mitochondrial Neurogastrointestinal Encephalomyopathy (MNGIE).
On June 25, 2026, Zoe Grace Lucas bravely shared with her community that she had been diagnosed with MNGIE.
She wrote:
Hey everyone, I just wanted to come on here today to let you know that I have somewhat recently been diagnosed with a condition called Mitochondrial Neurogastrointestinal Encephalopathy. If I have been distant it’s been because i’ve been processing a lot and also dealing with side effects from the disease…
Also, Zoe expressed deep gratitude to her family for their support, offering a special thanks to her mother, whom she described as her rock through the journey.

Born on January 15, 1999, in Evanston, Illinois, participated in gymnastics and cheerleading. She graduated from Huntley High School in 2017.
After graduation, she pursued her passion for beauty and wellness by studying at the Schaumburg Campus Cosmetology & Spa Academy.
Soon after, she began working at Top Notch Salon & Spa in December 2017.
Beyond her athletic pursuits, Zoe had a passion for makeup, music, and traveling. She often attended concerts and ended her evenings with her favorite comfort program, Diners, Drive‑Ins and Dives.
She shared a deep bond with her beloved dogs, who adored her as much as she adored them.
A devoted daughter, sister, and friend, Zoe is survived by her mother, ; her father, Paul Lucas; her brothers, Zachery (Cassandra) Lucas and Zane (Madison) Lucas, and many other family members.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Rebecca and Richard Paxton.
Zoe’s passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of her family, friends, and community.
Family, friends, and community members mourn Zoe’s loss deeply, remembering her strength, humor, and the light she brought into their lives.
Regarding the celebration of life, visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 10, 2026, from 4–7 p.m. at DeFiore Funeral Home, 10763 Dundee Road, Huntley.
A Funeral Mass will follow on Thursday, December 11, 2026, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 10307 Dundee Road, Huntley.
