Frago, North Dakota’s 13-Year-Old Native and Talented Athlete Jemimah Audu Dies After She Collapses During Basketball Game at Discovery Middle School

The Fargo community is mourning the sudden and tragic loss of Jemimah Zoey Audu, a vibrant 13-year-old athlete and beloved 8th grader at Discovery Middle School.

Born on January 15, 2012, Jemimah passed away unexpectedly on November 21, 2026, after collapsing during a basketball game at her school.

She was immediately Sanford Medical Center, where medical personnel worked tirelessly to save her life, but she ultimately could not be revived.

Jemimah was known for her love of basketball and her active participation in her youth group at Northview Church.

She was cherished by her family, friends, and school community, and shared a particularly close bond with her younger brother, Jethro, who is in the 5th grade at Eagles Elementary.

Her parents, Johnny and Sarah Cox, expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the first responders — including police, fire, and EMT personnel — as well as to the emergency room staff who worked diligently to save her.

According to the family, Jemimah had no previous health conditions.

An autopsy is currently pending at the University of North Dakota to determine the exact cause of her sudden passing.

“Shattered and heartbroken are the only words that come close to how we are feeling,” her family shared.

Fargo, ND, Community Has Created a Fundraiser To Ease the Financial Burden of Late Jemimah Audu’s Family

The untimely death of Jemimah Audu has left a profound void in the lives of her family, friends, and loved ones.

Many of her loved ones are paying tribute to the late Jemiman and extending their heartfelt condolences to her family during this difficult time.

Similarly, the Frago community has also created a fundraiser to support Jemimah’s family during this difficult time and ease their financial burden, including the funeral and medical expenses.

Funeral and for Jemimah will be held on Monday, December 1, 2026, at Northview Church in Fargo, ND. Visitation is scheduled from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM, followed by the funeral service at 5:00 PM.

The family has requested that donations be directed to them to assist with final arrangements.

Jemimah Audu’s legacy will live on through the memories shared by her family, friends, and the wider community.

The family encourages friends and community members to celebrate her life by remembering her love for basketball, her faith, and the special bond she shared with those closest to her.
