Mildred Williams, science teacher at Oneonta High School and wife of longtime Oneonta boys basketball coach Jim Williams, passed away suddenly.
Charles Gibbons first shared news of Mildred Williams’ passing in the public Facebook group , saying:
Mildred Williams, longtime science teacher at Oneonta High School and wife of longtime Oneonta boys basketball coach Jim Williams, has died.
As her family remains private during this heartwrenching time, the cause of her death is not disclosed.
Jim Williams And His Wife, Mildred Williams, Were Educator In Oneonta, Alabama!
Jim Williams was the longtime boys basketball coach at Oneonta High School.
His beloved wife, Mildred Williams, was a longtime science teacher at Oneonta High School.
Beloved by generations of students and neighbours, she was known for her deep care for students and her quiet, steady presence in their lives.
Before moving to Oneonta, she and her husband taught at J.B. Pennington, where they shaped young minds with compassion and commitment.
She also taught Sunday School at Oak Grove Methodist Church more than six decades ago.
Together, they were a beloved pair in the Oneonta community, educators, neighbors, and supporters of local youth.
Their shared dedication to teaching and coaching left a lasting imprint on generations of students and families.
Following her passing, many of her former students and those who knew her paid heartfelt tribute on social media.
One of her former students wrote:
She was a good one, You might not know it at the time, but she really cared about her students.
Likewise, another one said:
She was one of my favorite teachers. She truly cared. She will be missed.
Additionally, one community member shared:
She and Coach were always fond of my Nathan,They loved watching him play almost as much as I did.
As of now, no public obituary or official announcement has confirmed the date or details of Mildred Williams’ funeral or celebration of life.
