Elena Yates was born on June 3, 2002, in New Jersey as one of the six children of Craig Yates and Colette Marino Yates.

She has two sisters, Ava and Jaina, and three brothers, Anthony, Winston, and Craig Jr.

Her father, Craig Yates, excelled in multiple sports while attending high school and was a standout linebacker who played for Princeton University’s men’s football team, leading his team to several victories.

Craig E. Yates also earned football letters at Princeton University in 1989 and 1990, making him an all-time for the program.

While Craig Yates didn’t pursue his athletic career professionally, he guided Elena and her five siblings to be outstanding athletes from a very young age.

Following in her father’s footsteps,began her athletic journey at Bishop Eustace Prep School in Pennsauken, New Jersey, where she played varsity basketball and lacrosse throughout her high school career.

Wearing jersey #44, she primarily played as a shooting guard and point guard for the girls’ varsity basketball team, contributing significantly to the team’s performance over multiple seasons.

Elena began her varsity basketball journey in 2017 as a sophomore, wearing jersey #45. She helped her team achieve a 13-5 record, including a 10-3 league performance, which ranked her 14th in the league, 40th in the state, and 512th nationally.

In 2018, as a junior, she contributed to an 8-7 record and a 5-6 league record, achieving a national ranking of #708 and a state ranking of #51.

Beyond basketball, Elena also played varsity lacrosse for Bishop Eustace, showcasing her versatility and athleticism across multiple sports.

Like Elena Yates, her siblings also played multiple sports in high school. Her younger sister, Jaina Yates, played varsity basketball at Moorestown High School as a point guard and shooting guard.

Jaina is currently pursuing her Secondary education and teaching degree at the College of Charleston and is set to graduate in 2028.

Similarly, her brother plays football at Penn State University as a Linebacker. Prior to college, Winston played football at Paul VI High School, where he was named team captain twice for the Crusaders and earned team MVP and third-team all-state honors.

He also played basketball at Paul VI as a shooting guard and was a first-team all-conference honoree.

Likewise, Elena’s two other younger brothers, Craig Jr. and Anthony Yates, are also high school athletes. Craig plays football at Bishop Eustace Prep High School, and Anthony plays football at Moorestown High School as a wide receiver.
