Former NC State Linebacker Rickey Dowdy Jr. Returns to Alma Mater as Head Football Coach at High Point Central High School

Rickey Dowdy Jr., a High Point, North Carolina native, former NC State linebacker, and longtime youth coach, has begun his new role at his alma mater, High Point Central High School.
The former collegiate football star, Rickey Dowdy Jr., returns to his alma mater, High Point Central High School, as head football coach.
High Point Central High School took to its official social media to announce the news and wrote:
“Rickey will play a major role with our Football Team, the community, as well as with our Behavior Support team alongside Mrs. Byrd, and Mr. Cook. Welcome sir!”
High Point Central High SchoolBorn on December 28, 1990, to parents Rickey Sr. and Sharon Dowdy, Rickey began his athletic journey from a very young age at High Point Central High School, where he won the hearts of many with his amazing football journey and his academic commitment.
As a senior linebacker at High Point under coach Wayne Jones, 105 tackles, 17 sacks, 10 other tackles for loss, and grabbed two interceptions.
Similarly, he registered 74 tackles and 13 sacks his junior year and was named all-conference as a junior and senior.
Rickey Dowdy Jr. was also named to the All-Atlantic Region class of 2009 by Prep Star.
He continued his football career at North Carolina State University and Cumberland University, where, standing 6’2” tall, Rickey played as a linebacker and led his team in several victories.
With his extraordinary knowledge of football and his experience in high school and collegiate athletic careers, Rickey Dowdy Jr. began his career as a youth coach.
He dedicates himself to mentoring young athletes and leading them in their athletic journey.
Beyond his sports career, Rickey is a proud father to his daughter, Emory, and enjoys spending his free time fishing, playing golf, and collecting sneakers with her.
