Sebastian River High Football Player Joseph Lomas Killed in Motorcycle Accident After Elderly Couple Cuts Across Their Path; Helmets Couldn’t Save Him

Joseph Lomas, Class of 2026, tragically passed away on January 11, 2026, in a motorcycle accident while joyriding with a friend in the warm Florida sun.
As the two rode together, an elderly couple turned left into a driveway, intercepting their path and causing both young men to be thrown from their motorcycles.
Despite wearing helmets, the impact left them with injuries too severe to survive, and they were pronounced deceased at the scene.
The elderly couple sustained only minimal injuries, while Joseph’s family and community were left devastated by the sudden and heartbreaking loss of a life just beginning.

Joseph had just graduated from high school in May and was preparing to begin a new chapter in life by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps.
He was scheduled to head to boot camp this spring and had planned to list his mother as his dependent to help ease her financial struggles.
Deeply devoted to his family, Joseph lived at home and cared for his mother, who has long battled hip and back disabilities.
Known as #66 on the SRHS football team, Joseph was a Sebastian River High School senior and a strong 6’0”, 220 lb Quick Guard for the Sharks football team.
He for four years and earned the respect of everyone around him.
Moreover, he admired his coaches, Harris, Franklin, and Perry, who guided him from his early struggles to becoming a varsity starter
Outside of his dedication to football and his military aspirations, Joseph loved riding his motorcycle, enjoyed photography, and working out with his brother.
He was the youngest cousin in his family, full of energy, love, and life, and he carried a deep sense of responsibility toward those he loved most.
His sudden passing has left his family heartbroken, especially his mother, who now faces unimaginable grief.
One of his close friends shared,
It’s love until the end of times man, you were one of the greatest people I’ve ever met and an even better role model to me. I look up to you in ways I wish I got to tell you.
Another member of the Shark Nation community expressed,
I am beyond words as this is devastating. Praying for his family and all of Shark Nation as another young boy taken too soon. He was such a genuine and awesome young man. I am thankful to have known him.
Now, regarding the fundraising campaign, Melissa Salas organized a GoFundMe under the title “” to help Joseph’s mother move from Florida to North Carolina so she can be closer to family who will care for her during this difficult time.
Donations will directly benefit her well-being as she begins to rebuild her life after the loss of her youngest child.
As of now, there are no publicly available details about Joseph Lomas’ funeral or celebration of life services.
