Iowa Storm Soccer Club took to their official Facebook handle to announce the tragic news. They wrote,

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Zoe Montenegro, a young player from the UFA community.
Our hearts are with the Montenegro family, Zoe’s teammates, coaches, and everyone affected by this loss. We join the soccer community in holding them close in thought and prayer.

Sporting Iowa also took to its official Facebook page and offered heartfelt .

Our hearts are with the Montenegro family and the entire UFA community as they grieve the loss of Zoe Montenegro.
We are deeply saddened by this heartbreaking news and stand with Zoe’s family, her teammates, her coaches, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

Jaime Leive from Des Moines, IA, organized the fundraising campaign on to help Zoe’s family with funeral expenses. She wrote,

Zoe was 11 years old and was about to turn 12 on January 14th. She was a bright, joyful child who loved building Legos, playing soccer, and spending time with the people she loved. Her beautiful spirit, smile, and kindness touched everyone who knew her.

The campaign aims to collect $30k, and it has collected over $23,328.

Alex Karajic shared the official link to GoFundMe and requested everyone to donate. He wrote,

Our UFA soccer family is devastated by the tragic loss of our Zoe Montenegro. She passed away yesterday leaving behind 3 younger siblings and her sweet mom and dad at the very young age of 11 years. If you are able to contribute, anything helps.
Thanks for considering and please keep this sweet family in your thoughts and prayers.

Other close ones and relatives have also offered their heartfelt condolences and sent prayers to Zoe’s family to stay strong in this difficult time.

Soccer player Zoe Montenegro was born on January 14, 2014, to her , Ignacio, and her mother, Ariana Montenegro.
